David John Cronin, 64, of International Falls, MN died Saturday January 21st 2023 at his home on Rainy Lake surrounded by his family after a courageous five plus year battle with kidney cancer.
He was born May 26, 1958 to John Carroll Cronin and Catherine Marie (Sweeney) in Grand Forks, ND.
After graduating high school in Thompson North Dakota in 1976, he went on to attend the University of North Dakota where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree of accountancy in 1980. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Nancy Waxvik on December 28th 1979 and had two children.
He had a 42 plus year career beginning with Drees Riskey & Nordel Grand Forks in May of 1980 and during that time he earned his CPA license. David and his family then moved to International Falls MN in 1986 where he was hired as branch manager for the firm Miller McDonald before becoming a partner/ shareholder. From there he made his final career move to TruStar Federal Credit Union as Chief Financial Officer in July 2008.
He was a dedicated Rotarian joining in 1987 and attained perfect attendance until October of 2022. He was an Elks member and treasurer for the past 34 years, Smokey Bear golf tournament coordinator/ director, as well as a member of the Blandin Foundation, coaching his son John’s hockey and baseball teams, volunteering his time in the beer gardens, and around the community whenever needed. He thoroughly enjoyed Sioux Hockey, attending his grandchildren’s activities/sporting events, as well as snowmobiling and fishing with Nancy and friends.
David was preceded in death by 7 month old brother Robert John “Bobby Jack” Cronin, mother Catherine Cronin, and father John “Jack” Cronin.
David is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Nancy Cronin, son John (Christie) Cronin of International Falls, MN, daughter Crystal (Donald Ohlquist) Cronin of International Falls, MN, sister Carol (Charles) Bruzzone of Woodbury, MN, brother Patrick (Dawn) Cronin of Detroit Lakes, MN, grandchildren KayLynn, Cammie, Jack, Reign and Aiyanna.
He also truly loved and cared deeply for his nieces, nephews, coworkers, colleagues, fellow Rotarians, Elks members, and numerous special friends.
A celebration of life will be held at The Elks Lodge #1599 215 3rd Street International Falls, MN on Sunday, January 29, 2023 with service beginning at 1:00 pm and lunch and fellowship to follow. In honor of David’s love of college hockey, those who wish may wear the color, sweatshirt, jersey etc. of their favorite team.
