Gillette “Keith” Amidon, 87, of International Falls, passed away on October 19, 2022, at Good Samaritan. Keith was born June 19, 1935, in St. Paul, MN to George and Erma Amidon. The family was in Big Falls where he started school and then in 1949 moved to International Falls, graduating in 1953. During that time, he met Janet Thompson who would become his wife. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He returned and married Janet on December 30, 1955. They spent the next 62 years together. He was a lifelong member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union 49 with 37 active years including heavy equipment operating, logging and trucking. He and Janet retired to Surprise, AZ and spent 13 years there. He filled his time volunteering with AARP repairing homes within the Navajo Nation in Arizona and was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for the Surprise Senior Center. He and Janet moved back to International Falls in 2012, and spent their final years back in their home community. Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet, parents George and Erma, sister Judy Dougherty and brother-in-law Dick Dougherty. He is survived by his brother Jim (Sue) Amidon of Bozeman, MT, daughter Elizabeth (Steve) Johnson of International Falls, son George (Susie) Amidon of Holland, MI, son Keith Amidon of International Falls. Grandchildren Stephanie (Lincoln) Jamrog, Ross (Libby) Johnson, Paul (Toriah) Amidon, Ashley (Mike) Oliver, Ben Amidon, Rachel Amidon, Autumn and McCain Martin. Great grandchildren Finley and Knox Johnson, Jesper Jamrog, Octavia and Sage Amidon, Gemma, Liam and Lincoln Amidon. Per Keith’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Interment will be at Reedy Riverview Cemetery, Littlefork, MN, at a later date. If so desired, in-memoriam donations would be preferred to The Purple Pride Foundation. For those that remember the Purple Blazers worn in the 60’s and 70’s, Keith was instrumental in the fund-raising efforts to purchase them.
