The first month of 2022 is almost over. I am enjoying not walking home in the dark as we gain more light each day. But the weather is still cold and I like nothing better than curling up in the eveings under a blanket and a cat or two and reading, knitting and or playing games. So, I was very excited to get the book The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Matsukawa. It is a fantastical tale about a cat who demands the new owner of a secondhand bookstore help him save books from neglectful owners. A fun quick read for book lovers of all stripes.

Rose Marie LaBate

Rose Marie LaBate, 69, of International Falls, Minnesota passed away after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Rainy Lake Medical Center. Rose was born May 18, 1952 at Robbinsdale, Minnesota to Lester and Donna Hughes.

Theodore “Ted” Bernard

Theodore “Ted” Bernard peacefully entered his eternal life on January 23, 2022 with his beloved wife, Vivian, holding his hand. Ted was raised in a large family on a farm in Roosevelt, MN and met Vivian in nearby Warroad, MN. After their marriage, they settled in International Falls where Ted spent his career as a pipefitter at Mando / Boise Cascade. Ted and Vivian were married for 73 years and were blessed with five children: Delbert (Julie), Ron (Barb), Cindy (Tom), Randy and Todd. Ted thoroughly enjoyed being a Grandpa to Krista, Kimmy (Adam), Travis (Devon), Amy (Ryan), Jennie (Jerry), Steve (Krysina) and Andrew and being a Great Grandpa to Ayden Bernard, Jacob, Caleb & Madelyn Peters, Chrishion Denson, Braiden & Alyssa Eilerts. Ted loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of the Evangelical Covenant Church volunteering as a Sunday School and Bluewater Bible Camp bus driver for several decades. In retirement, Ted and Vivian enjoyed fishing, gardening, keeping in touch with relatives and friends and wintering in Florida.
