GOP candidate Wolfe suspends campaign

Bob Wolfe, Republican endorsed candidate for House District 3A, last week suspended his campaign and endorsed Roger Skraba of Ely for the House seat. “This was all about party and not about persons because we need to ensure that Republicans take control of the Arrowhead,” said Wolfe, who lives in Loman near International Falls.

Staff changes at VNP

Voyageurs National Park has added and changed staff in recent months. Changes include new positions for some staff that have worked with the park for many years and new staff coming to the area from other National Park Service sites. Given new remote working opportunities some administrative staff will be working for the park but may be housed in other areas across the country.

BUFFALO CHICKEN PASTA

Ingredients: 1 16 oz. package pasta cooked 1 24 oz package chicken strips cooked according to package instructions (or use any chicken or chicken strips) 1 cup chopped celery 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved 2 green onions chopped 3/4 cup buffalo sauce 1/3 cup ranch dressing 1/3 cup blue cheese crumbles optional Instuctions: Once the pasta and chicken are cooled, add into a large bowl with celery, tomatoes and green onions.

Violet’s Floyd

1946: According to Floyd, life wasn’t all roses during the war because they didn’t have much to eat as everything was rationed including sugar. He remembers putting lard on his bread seasoned with salt stating that fat was a commodity back then. He also recalled that later they had gotten a gallon of corn syrup and it was so extravagant that in his words “they thought they had the world by the tail,” they put it on their bread for jam.

Joyce Elaine Roppe

Joyce E. Roppe, 75, of Fayal Township died Thursday, April 28, 2022 at New Journey Residence in Biwabik, Minnesota. She was born on January 18, 1947 in Fort Frances, Canada to Roy and Dolores M. (Schneider) Servis. Joyce attended school in International Falls and was united in marriage to Gale L. Roppe on August 6, 1963 in International Falls. They moved and made their home on the Iron Range in 1966.

Agnes “Nan” Oien (Russell, Stallard)

Agnes “Nan” Oien (Russell, Stallard) of International Falls, Mn, passed away suddenly on April 26th, 2022, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, lovingly surrounded by her family. She was born on December 31st, 1937, in Whitburn, Scotland. Daughter of James and Agnes (Neally) Russell. Beloved sister of James Russell Jr. and Anna Russell. Nan was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her first husband John Stallard, who passed unexpectedly on August 3rd, 1986, while on vacation in Scotland. Nan and John had been married for 28 years.
