As part of our responsibility to help educate voters about local elections, the Rainy Lake Gazette asked candidates in contested races in the Aug. 9 primary election to answer some general questions to introduce themselves to voters.

One week of summer reading programming left. Don’t miss out on career exploration on Tuesday, Libratory on Wednesday, storytime on Thursday and Big Play on Friday. Next week will be their last week for the summer. We will continue to hand out books for finishing four reading activities through the end of the month. So even if you haven’t read much this summer, there is still time to grab a book and take a look at our summer reading categories and read for free books!

Rotarians Ted Saxton and Jim Yount shared updates on Small Town Tech and the Koochiching Technology Initiative at Rotary of International Falls’ weekly Wednesday lunch meeting. They shared the importance of generating ideas and finding the right partners to assure the ideas can get implemented - creating synergy.

Richard Bryan Pearson

Richard Bryan Pearson (Rick), 65, of Chaska, MN and formerly International Falls, MN, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Rick was born on May 7, 1957 in International Falls to Marvin and Marylou (Miljonovich) Pearson.

Mary Elizabeth Keep

On the morning of July 22, 2022 Mary went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born in Mankato, MN on December 2, 1946. Mary later moved to Littlefork where she attended school. It was there she met and married her high school sweetheart Larry Keep. They were married on September 16, 1966 and had two sons Larry Allen and Michael. They lived in Minneapolis for several years before returning to the Littlefork area. They shared their love and marriage of 55 years together.
