Looking Back

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Fern Alice Stav Munro, 95, will be conducted Saturday, December 29, at Faith United Church of Christ. Fern died on November 18 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Fern was born and raised in North Dakota. Her parents, Rose and Joseph Stav, boarded all of their children in Dickinson, ND, some 20 miles away from their Manning home so that they could receive their high school education. Fern went on to earn her teaching certificate at Dickinson State Teachers College. She married a fellow teacher, Roy Munro, in 1932. Roy pursued a career in Customs and the couple moved to International Falls in 1946. Fern was a substitute teacher in the Falls school system for many years, a member of the local Red Hat Club, the “Loon-A-Ticks,” and a strong voice in the Falls chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

A Jackpine Lake Christmas

No logging in, no high speed internet, and no waiting for confirmation at breakneck speed, no concern that everyone who ever wanted to snoop in on a north woods venue, place and time, would be in the know.
