KAREN FRANCIS BOYUM

Karen Francis Boyum, 81, of International Falls MN, passed away on March 28th, 2023, surrounded by her family. Karen was born on February 6th, 1942, to Oscar and Minnie Sutherland in International Falls, MN. She immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Karen graduated from Falls High in 1960. Karen and Norman were married in 1961 and together went on to have three children, Laurie, Roberta, Steven and six grandchildren. Karen was a homemaker for many years before going to work as a teller at several local banks in town. She was a loyal fan of her grandchildren, attending many dance recitals, basketball, hockey and volleyball games. She loved to bake her famous chocolate chip cookies and was known for her homemade rhubarb sauce. Karen was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space she left behind. Karen was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Deloris Sutherland, Beverly Holenko, and brother Butch Sutherland. Karen is survived by her husband Norman, Daughters Laurie Bujold (James), Berta Filipiak (Tom Cann), Son Steven Boyum (Cindy), and six grandchildren Christopher Bujold, Shawn Filipiak (Holly Mattison) Nick Bujold (Tara), Maddie Filipiak (Isaac Aanerud), Wyatt Boyum (Ashley Mehrwerth) and Gina Boyum, her brother Keith Sutherland (Beverly), and sisters Darlene Bahr (Butch), and Diane Naegele (Joe) Services will be held at Northwoods Bible Church in Ray MN on Wednesday, April 12th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in her honor. Alyce Marie Hobbs, 83, of Littlefork, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Rainy Lake Medical Center in International Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Lindford Christian Fellowship Church in Littlefork, MN with Pastor Randy Barstad officiating.

ROGER IRVIN GRIFFIN

Roger Irvin Griffin of International Falls, died at his home on April 3, 2023 after a long and hard battle with pancreatic cancer. Roger was born on October 11, 1949 in Rockford, Illinois, to Ethel (Nelson) and Irvin Griffin. His parents owned a cabin on Lake Kabetogama and the family spent many summers there. They loved the area and spent time fishing Lake Kabetogama, Rainy Lake, Ash River, and Namakan River.

Water level targets adjusted

With an increased spring flood risk, water levels for Rainy and Namakan lakes will target the lower 25 percent of their respective rule curve bands, the International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board Water Levels Committee announced this week.

Skywarn is a cooperative effort between the NWS, local emergency management, and private citizens who volunteer their time to attend free classes and send their weather reports to the NWS.

The Falls City Council March 20 approved a $24,999 commercial loan as requested by Trustar Federal Credit Union on behalf of Whispering Leaf irrevocable trust to improve the building at 345 Third St., International Falls.
