New state law: Universal free meals

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz officially signed into law HF5 on Friday, March 17, which would ensure free school meals for students. This will guarantee that all students, regardless of their family’s need, will receive food during the school day to fuel their education. Minnesota is the fourth state in the country to enact this program!

Speech takes 10th

The Falls High School speech team placed 10th March 25 at a meet in Grand Rapids. The following are the individual Bronco finishes: Discussion • Karlyann Bennett 4, 5, 5 and 16th place Duo • Eve Hemstad and Chloe Hufnagle 1, 2, 3 and in finals 5,3,2 taking 3rd place • Alaina Gates and Hannah McGonigle 5, 3, 5 and 10th Humorous • Max Youso 5, 4, 5 and 11th place • Joe Sullivan 3, 5, 2 and in finals 2,4,2 taking 2nd place • Kourtney Talley 4, 5, 4 and 8th place Prose • Linnaea Yount 4, 3, 3 and 11th place • Leah Boe 3, 5, 3 and 14th place .

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The Aitkin-Itasca-Koochiching Community Health Board will meet on April 13 at the Itasca Resource Center in Grand Rapids. The Board works with its member counties to provide support for Public Health initiatives and administrative services for state and federal grant funds. All meetings are open to the public.
