The Bronco Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place April 15 at Backus. Those inducted were Tony Curran, Gary Davison, Jeff Lindvall, Dan Mahle, the 1964 boys hockey team, and the 1972 boys hockey team.

WILLIAM THOMAS FULTON ”TOM”

William Thomas Fulton “Tom” age 73 passed away on March 22, 2023, in Hospice Care, Longview, Washington. Tom passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Tom was born to Bill and Mary Fulton on September 15, 1950, in Fort Frances, Ont. He was a graduate of International Falls High School.

Grim, KCHS, Hardee’s recognized

The International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its annual awards with a ceremony and banquet April 27. This year’s recipients of the awards are Citizen of the Year, Lee Grim; Small Business of the Year, Koochiching County Historical Society; Large Business of the Year, Hardee’s.

Local officials watch, plan

With weather forecasts this week for Borderland showing less precipitation than elsewhere in northern Minnesota, risks for flooding may be lessening. But that could change should the area receive more precipitation, and residents where were flooding has occurred before should take actions now to minimize damage should flooding occur.

Lab day

On Monday April 16, the industrial technology class from Indus, Baudette and Northome schools attended Northwest Technical College in Bemidji for a lab day. Some of the students are taking a plumbing class for college credit while in high school through NTC, reports Soren Olesen, Indus industrial technology and art teacher.

City Beach: No lifeguards in summer

No lifeguards will work this summer at City Beach, International Falls Mayor Harley Droba announced Monday. Droba said, during the regular council meeting, the beach, located within the Ranier city limits, has had no lifeguards for the past three years, first because of the pandemic and last year, the flood.

Golf: Regardless of the season

Engineers with a love for golf, Justin and Mindy Mayer have opened Borderland Indoor Golf, inside the Dart Room at Border Bar, 415 Third Ave., International Falls. The couple got their taste of the sport as undergrads at University of North Dakota; Justin played in an indoor golf league and had a great time.

Harold Westover

In 1901 Harold Westover was born in a log cabin, his father a homesteader, his mother only one of three white women living between the Sioux and Manitou rapids Indian reservations. Harold noted that at time there was a population that registered many bachelors and not many ladies. He also iterated there was no such thing as bakery bread and that folks ate pancakes and bannock which he described at a thicker pancake dough baked in an oven.
