Lessons learned

The 55th Annual Outdoor Education Days for Falls Elementary fifth graders June 1 brought students to seven different presentations given by local community members working in different agencies. Above, Jolen Simon, Koochiching Soil and Water Conservation District program coordinator, and Wayne Fuller of the county Environmental Services, speak to students about the value of wetlands and how modeling is used to predict future responses to high water events. Weather River

Nearly 80 years here, across our somewhat united States mostly close to neighbor Canada, have included lots of weather watching. Most years also involved many rivers’ moving waters, generating some appreciated similarities “Weather River.”

The spawn is about complete and the walleye are beginning to move into the shorelines and back bays to locate food sources. They are active and hitting on whatever is placed in front of them.

ROBERT WAYNE LEGGETT

1949-2023 It is with great sadness the family of Bob Leggett shares of his peaceful passing on May 4 at his home in Makinen, Minnesota. Bob was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1949 as the first of four children of Eugene and Mamie Leggett. He spent the first 18 years of his life in International Falls and was involved in youth hockey and baseball. This was only the beginning of his love for sports.
