Community effort

Border Bank and the local Knights of Columbus recently gathered to celebrate the community’s assistance in their efforts to raise funds for the local food shelf, which is seeing rising and historic use these days.Christina Daniel-McKee, Koochiching County Food Access executive director, met Monday at Border Bank with staff and local Knights, with each providing a donation to the food shelf during Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign.Donations made during the campaign, which runs through Saturday, have more purchase power because KCFA gets a partial donation match based on the funds and food pounds raised.Border Bank staff and the Knights stressed the efforts were successful because the community turned out to support their fundraising projects.Local Knights raised the funds with community support of the Lenten fish frys and also chipped in from their general fund.In addition to the nearly $1,500 donation, Daniel-McKee noted the Knights help in other ways, including stepping up about a year ago when the increased food shelf use resulted in additional truck deliveries, and staff couldn’t keep up.
