Francis G Wood, “Woody”, 95, of International Falls, Minnesota died from complications of COVID-19 at Good Samaritan Society in International Falls, with his son and granddaughter by his side.
He was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, on February 11, 1926 to Frank and Mildred Wood.
He was employed by Rainy River Improvement Company as a lineman for many years and then transferred to Boise Cascade as an electrician until his retirement. Woody was an avid fisherman and hunter. His best times were spent flying his float plane from the family cabin on Commissioner’s Bay to several fishing camps during the summer and winter.
His pride and joy was spending time with his grandchildren, Jenna and Zach. He spent many hours helping Jenna get to hockey and softball practices. He and Zach would watch sports together and if they weren’t together they would call each other when their team scored. The hours spent tossing a ball or puck to Zach were endless, some of Zach’s fondest memories.
He enjoyed dancing on Sunday afternoons at the Border Bar and riding his lawn tractor to Hardees and Dairy Queen.
Grandpa Woody was truly one of a kind. From his daily trips to Hardee’s, even by lawnmower once he didn’t have his license anymore, to his many fishing trips with Terry and playing ball with Zach. Once a week Robins donuts deliveries and always talking hockey and curling. Fly high and watch over us all. We love you!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mildred Wood, brother Jack Wood, and son Gary Wood.
He is survived by his son, Terry (Tony), Daughter-in-law, Tammy (Dave), grandchildren, Jenna DeBenedet and Zach Wood, granddaughter, Melissa Johnson (Dave) and great grandchildren, Gavin Johnson, Jaxon and Niko DeBenedet; his daughter, Jan Wood (Mike), grandson Justin Wood, great-grandsons Jake and Tanner Wood, and cousin Carol Banks.
