Leona Caroline Utter

Leona Caroline Utter passed away, with her family by her side, in Duluth, MN on March 28th, 2022 at the age of 87.

Leona was born in Littlefork, MN in 1935. As the youngest of nine children, she would regale stories of sneaking rationed sugar to make caramels with her sister during the war or of working on the family farm alongside her mother. This theme of daily joy and hard work became a main thread of her life’s story.

Leona worked at the Clerks Office for the City of Big Falls while raising and nurturing her three children, Mike, Joni and Jane.

She was an active participant in her church and community and dedicated much of her life to helping those around her.

Anyone who crossed paths with Leona can attest to her calming, loving presence. She had the amazing ability to fill each person she met with love and always greeted you with a smile and some sort of delicious baked good she managed to “throw together quickly”.

There was always a song on Leona’s breath, a smile smeared wide across her face and a quick squeeze of your hand whenever you needed it. Though she would humbly deny it, the world is better to have known a woman like her.

Leona is survived by the special man in her life, Don Robertson; followed by her children, Mike Lundstrom, Joni (Ron) Barg, Jane (Scott) Smith; grandchildren, Briana Barg, Alexa Smith, Madison Smith; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Jackson Reeser; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by husbands, Donald Lundstrom, Frank Utter; grandson, Ryan Barg; siblings, Delores, Margaret, Lou, Mary Lou, Ernie, Bill, Garland, and Rudy.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Big Falls at a later date.
