Allan R. Erickson, 74, of Sanford, died at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 10, 2022, following a period of declining health.
Allan was born in Littlefork, Minnesota on June 25, 1948, to Marvin and Etta (Towle) Erickson. He grew up in International Falls, Minnesota and graduated from International Falls High School in 1966. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served for 10 years both onboard a submarine and as a recruiter. In 1974 he married Sue Sturtevant and together they shared 48 years of marriage and raised two children. After completing his term in the military Allan and his wife settled in Maine and he went to work for Data General in Portsmouth before taking a position at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he stayed for 32 years until his retirement in 2010.
Allan enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home with his family. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Allan was predeceased by his parents and by a sister, Beverly Grevich.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Erickson of Sanford; two children, Allan Erickson, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Lebanon and Sara Galvin and her husband Robert of Staten Island, New York; four grandchildren, Abigail Erickson, Sydney Erickson, Sean Galvin and Olivia Erickson; three siblings, Kenneth Erickson, Vern Erickson and Jean Lessard and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours with refreshments will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with a funeral following at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.
