Arvid James Leinum

Arvid James Leinum, 86, passed away on August 17, 2022, at Miller Dwan in Duluth. Arvid was bom in Ranier, MN on December 13, 1935, and graduated from Falls High School in 1953. After graduation, Arvid worked for the Minnesota Highway Department. He enlisted in the Army from 1954-1957 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. After returning from the service, Arvid worked for Boise Cascade for approximately 15 years. He also worked for Ballan Furniture laying carpet.

Arvid met and married the love of his life and soulmate, Barbara Anderson, on June 18th, 1960. Fhe couple made their home in International Falls for 62 years. In 1977 Arvid and Barbara purchased Border Oil Company and worked in the company for over 20 years. Along with son, Jim, and daughter, Shari, they started numerous businesses in International Falls.

Arvid enjoyed time down at the farm raising small grain crops with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spent a lot of his time in the workshop doing all kinds of woodworking projects. He especially enjoyed helping his grandkids with all their school and extracurricular activities. He and Barb were part of a special group of friends they liked to call the “travel group” and enjoyed doing many things together. He also liked his frequent gambling trips with his wife and family.

Arvid was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia and Alfred Leinum; biological mother, Agnes Lahti; biological father, James Lessard; and brothers-in-law, Roger Anderson and Jim Larson.

Arvid is survived by his wife, Barbara Leinum; son, Jim (Julie) Leinum; daughter, Shari (Greg) Schneider; grandsons, Judd (Nikki) Leinum, Josh Leinum, Kalan (Maddisyn) Schneider, and Kyler (Shawnee) Schneider; granddaughter, Kara Schneider (Brady Hjelle); sisters-in-law, Darlene “Dolly” Larson, Donna (Lloyd) Barg; nieces, Debra (Don) Taylor, Lori (Gordon) Dobbs, Tami Renollet (Tom Dougherty), and Leah (Scott) DeLack; and many other nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will take place at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 24, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment with Military Honors will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
