Man has almost unlimited power to do damage and cause suffering, as we have been learning lately, and some slight power to do good, but as we grow up and pay attention to our surroundings, we see that we are beneficiaries of great gifts for which we can claim no credit, and so we have a day of thanksgiving in November, just as we’re bracing for winter.

Essentia recognized by CHIME

Essentia Health has been cited as a leader in technology by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, CHIME.Health care organizations are recognized annually for their information-technology achievements and receive certifications through the CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program. Organizations certified at level 9 or 10 (on a 1-10 scale) are considered leaders.This is the fourth year in a row Essentia has been recognized for its achievements in this field.Essentia’s acute and ambulatory settings are certified level 9, meaning it is in the top 1 percent of the nearly 48,000 organizations that were graded.

Rotary Report

With the Library Bistro closed for the week and deer hunting season, the Rotary Club’s weekly meeting was hosted by Rainy Lake Medical Center.Club President Kim Usery oversaw the program and invited members of RLMC’s executive team to speak on the new hospital building project.The project, dubbed Healthcare on Minnesota’s Edge, or HOME, seeks to build a new hospital and clinic building along Highway 11 east to replace the current aging infrastructure.There was an introduction by Emily Gedde, RLMC marketing generalist, and Kris Foss, chief talent officer, followed by Foss conducting a tour of the facility.

Dill certified as Falls mayor

Elected in a write-in campaign, Drake Dill was certified as International Falls mayor following the city’s official canvassing process.After hitting a shortened write-in campaign trail, it was assumed he received a majority of the 1,600 votes cast for write-ins Nov.

Juen recognized

Littlefork-Big Falls Viking football player Dominick Juen has been named to the 2024 Individual Academic Allstate Football Team.The recognition by the Minnesota State Football Coaches Association recognizes players with outstanding football ability plus academic excellence.Juen, a senior lineman, was selected for the 9-man team.

Voyageur Korpi recognized

Minnesota North College Rainy River Voyageur volleyball player Karsen Korpi has been selected for the first ever MCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.The MCAC All-Sportsmanship Team is a new honor the conference began this year, and members are selected by the head coaches of each athletic team.
