Rainy River volleyball season ends

The Minnesota North College Rainy River Voyageur volleyball team was on the Anoka-Ramsey campus last Friday for the first-round game in the Region 13B playoffs.The team lost to Century College 1-3 (15-25, 15-25, 26-24, 14-25) to end the Voyageurs’ season 16-12, and 9-5 in Conference play.The team dominated the Mesabi Range Norse, 3-0, Oct.

Key to dinner is community

Plans are underway for this year’s Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Elks Lodge 1599 in International Falls.The dinner is organized, prepared and served by volunteers, organizers Ronna MacKay and Shawn Mason noted.The traditional turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberries, fruit salad and dinner roll will be served up by the people behind the scenes that some might not see during the event.MacKay and Mason said the folks in the kitchen – before, during and after the dinner – deserve credit.“Tim MacKay for cooking all the turkeys and there are like 32 of them!!

Menards partners with Salvation Army

Menards of International Falls will join with other Menards stores across the United States to serve as a drop site for a toy drive that will benefit local children.Locally, Menards had partnered with The Salvation Army, whose staff and volunteers will collect the toys at the ed of the drive and distribute them to local children in need of a brighter Christmas, reported James McNeill, general manager of the International Falls store.In addition, people may continue a growing tradition of more than 50 years by visiting Menards “Enchanted Forest” to experience the decorated trees, colorful lights and displays.

Rotary Report

Last week at the Rotary Club of International Falls Club meeting, opening announcements included a summary of the Sketches of Minnesota event that was held at the Minnesota North – Rainy River campus the previous week.The event was well attended and the improv comedy, centered around living in the International Falls community, shed humorous light on some of the different problems faced with our community and promoted dialog on solving those different issues.The program for the meeting was presented by member Pete Schultz.

Elks Students of the Month

The International Falls School Board and Elks Lodge 1599 recently recognized Students of the Month for September and October.Landon Snyder and Lola Wade were recognized for September; Kieren Ford and Piper Tomczak were recognized for October.
