VNP: Markers out; no hunting

Voyageurs National Park staff began last week removing hazard markers and secondary aids to navigation within the par.The annual project began on Rainy Lake, then moved to the Namakan Basin, which includes Kabetogama, Namakan, and Sand Point lakes.Weather and other variables will determine the exact days when removal occurs.In addition, Voyageurs National Park reminds visitors that hunting and trapping of any type or manner is prohibited on federal lands and all waters within the boundary of Voyageurs National Park.

Airport focus of consultant review

International Falls and Koochiching County agreed to share the costs of a consultant who would identify opportunities and recommend actions to reduce subsidies paid annually to the operations of the Falls International Airport, while ensuring a sustainable future for the airport.The Falls City Council approved the plan as the Economic Development Authority Board in a special session Monday.

Rainy River volleyball

The Rainy River Voyageurs volleyball team suffered a couple of tough losses on Saturday in Mesabi while playing a couple of non-conference opponents.Game 1 against Lake Region State was a 0-3 loss as the Voyageurs would go down 12-25, 16-25, and 22-25.

Border Battle

The Bronco volleyball team Friday hosted the rematch of the Border Battle against Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings and the Vikings got the win in three sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.The Vikings were led from behind the line by Miley Davis, KamBree and KoDee Gustafson, and Anissa Wimmer in serving with an ace for each of them.
