Samuel Plummer’s New Year’s Eve missive was personal: “I am thankful, thankful thankful for such a prosperous year, I am happy, happy, happy that from all debt we are clear.”The nature of farming was such that he would not be out of debt for very long so while his teacher’s salary paid for family expenses it was not enough to pay the rent on additional land or the tools he needed to continue farming.

Rainy River hall induction June 8

A celebration of alumni success will be held June 8 at the Minnesota North College Rainy River Campus Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Backus Community Center in International Falls.The event is a recognition of excellence among the inductees, and a celebration of the potential of current and future students.The Hall of Fame also serves as a support network for the Rainy River Foundation, the goal of which is to raise money to assist students of today with the costs of education.The event is conducted by the Rainy River Campus Hall of Fame Organization, which began in 2020.

IBRT: ‘Strange Worlds’ May 31

The Icebox Radio Theater returns to the stage of The Salty Jester for a live show and broadcast on May 31 at 7 p.m.It’s an evening of firsts as the famous northland audio drama troupe presents a new theme, two world premieres, and a new broadcast platform.The theme of the evening will be “Strange Worlds: which will be the first time the IBRT will dedicate an entire evening to science fiction.In another first, two plays written by a mother and daughter will be part of the broadcast.
