Target water levels extended

The current water level targets for Rainy and Namakan lakes have been extended through the period up to May 15, reports the International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Water Levels Committee.The committee reported April 26 that Rainy Lake’s water level target will remain between the 75 percent and 100 percent band, or the top quarter, of the rule curve, without going below the 100 cms (~3,530 cfs) minimum outflow.Namakan Lake’s target will remain at the top 50 percent band of the rule curve.

CRM fills void left with newspaper closures

Community journalism is alive and well in two central Minnesota communities today even as they face the loss of their historic local newspapers.CherryRoad Media, the nation’s fastest growing newspaper company, announced today, April 26th, that it will open newspapers in Hutchinson and Litchfield, MN, to fill the void left with the closing of the “Hutchinson Leader” and the “Litchfield Independent Review.” The Leader and the Independent Review, both published since the 1880s, printed their final editions April 24th, leaving the communities without a local newspaper to chronicle their respective histories, triumphs and challenges.
