The Viking softball team’s first home game of the season against Cherry High School Thursday, April 25, was tough in the second and fourth inning, and they lost 8-2 to the visiting Tigers.Ellie Wendt, pitcher threw 6 strikeouts in the contest and helped her team with getting back to back shutout innings toward the end of the game.The next day the Vikings won 18-17 over L.O.W.Compiled by KGHS/KSDM Radio.

Rainy River softball

Minnesota North College Rainy River softball team took wins Sunday against Northland Community and Technical College.The Voyageurs won 16-8 in five innings in the first game and 12-4 in 6 innings in the second game.They played again this week, but scores were unavailable in time for this publication.

The Minnesota North College Rainy River baseball team was 22-17 overall and tied for second place in the northern division at 10-6 this week.They wrap up the regular season with a 4-game series versus Northland.On Sunday, April 28, Rainy River started in the top of the eighth of their Thursday game that was a 7-7 tie where they would win 12-8.

A former graduate, teacher and administrator of the International Falls school district has been selected to serve as the district’s next superintendent.Beth Shermoen was offered the position, following interviews last Friday with four candidates, said Roxanne Skogstad-Ditsch, Falls School Board chair.
