The Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings girls basketball team Friday dropped to Deer River.L-BF had 39 points to Deer River with 76.The Littlefork-Big Falls Viking boys basketball move to 8-4 on the year with a 92-48 win in Northome Friday.Top scorers were AJ Knaeble with 16, Tommy Larson with 40, Jax Sullivan with 16, and Seth Donor with 11.

Destiny Piekarski, a player for Minnesota North College Rainy River Voyageurs, has taken Minnesota College Athletic Conference Northern Division Athlete of the week for the third time this year.Piekarski, a forward from Littlefork, added two more double doubles to her season total of 10, averaging 27.5 points per game and 19 rebounds per game this week to earn her third MCAC N Division Women’s Basketball Athlete of the season.Pierkarski scored 55 points, and grabbed 38 rebounds, 10 assists, and three blocks in two North Division games during the week.Minnesota North College Rainy River had both the mens and womens team in action Jan.

A close call…

I walked into the neighborhood bank the other day and there in the lobby, loading the ATM machines, were two guys with fistfuls of money, bricks of $100s, $50s $20s, a sight I’d never seen before, perhaps a signal from alternative reality that my chance at bank robbery was here, but then I saw the third man, his hand on the pistol in his holster, and so instead I walked up to the cashier’s window and asked for a couple grand so I can make New Year’s gifts to doormen at our building and Mitch the plumber and our cleaning lady and also to some deserving children.I know it’s pitifully small-minded of me but I enjoy walking around with a $100 bill in my pocket.
