Notes from the constellation Orion

If you have good exposure to the south this time of year it is easy to see Orion rise and take his ordained path westward across the sky on a clear night. Orion speaks boldly to the soul, always imparting wonderment and a bit of understanding without us really knowing if you know what I mean.

On ice

Unique memorial for Falls native

To honor the passing of a beloved teacher and coach, formerly from International Falls, a group of her students are fundraising to create a unique memorial at the school in Tower where she taught for 34 years.

Annual speed run Saturday

Ever wonder how fast your sled can go? You can find out Saturday when the International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club raises money to help local people cancer treatments transportation costs with its 14th Annual Falls International Speed Run Against Cancer. The club teams up with Thunderbird Lodge for the event, which runs from noon to 3 p.m.

CO Reports

District 5 - Eveleth area Feb. 13 CO Darrin Kittelson (International Falls #1) reports time was spent at Camp Ripley for the Enforcement Division?s annual awards and training program. The weekend was spent monitoring a variety of outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, shed hunting, and walking as the warm weather brought out lots of people. Enforcement action was taken for snowmobile and ATV registration issues, but overall compliance was good.

Rainy River men

The Voyageur men had to rally from a halftime deficit to pick up a win over Mesabi Range. Trailing by 3 at the half, Rainy River won 69-65 as Malik Siggers had 25 points and Tyrecke Francois 18 to lead the way as both made five 3-pointers in the contest.
