Cool as an Icebox
Icebox Days lived up to its reputation this year with highs Saturday that didn’t reach zero. It was about -10 when only the bold ran in the cold for the 5K and 10K Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Runs and later in the afternoon, when folks from both sides of the border competed in the dramatic and often humorous Smoosh Races, Frozen Turkey Bowling and the newly popular Corn Hole tournament, it warmed to a balmy -4 – the high for Jan.
Ray mushers lead Beargrease marathon
Keith Aili, of Ray, is the champion of the 39th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon Tuesday, which started Sunday, Jan. 29.
Bronco swimming, diving
The Bronco boys swimming and diving team was back in the pool competitively Jan. 27 for the first time in nearly two weeks, hosting Rock Ridge and Proctor-Esko in a triangular meet.

Bronco basketball
The Battle by the Border for girls basketball took place at the Falls High Gym Jan. 30 as the Broncos hosted the Vikings. International Falls went on a 13-0 run early in the game to take the lead away from Littlefork-Big Falls and then added a 12-0 run to lead the game 42-19 at the half.
L-BF basketball
On Friday night, the Littlefork-Big Falls boys basketball team hosted 12-3 Ely. The game was close early with the Vikings holding a 10-9 lead four minutes in. The Timberwolves started to advantage with their press which led to a run late in the first half to give Ely a 39-23 lead at the break.
SPORTS NOTEBOOK
The Bronco girls hockey team played Hibbing- Chisholm on the road Monday to open the final week of the regular season. The Bluejackets scored twice in the first period, three times in the second, and two more time in the third as they shutout the Broncos 7-0. Mara Pelland made 48 saves for the Falls who play their final regular season game on Feb. 3.
