The Rainy River men’s basketball played within the North Division Jan. 11 as they hosted the Hibbing Cardinals. The Voyageurs trailed at the break 38-35 but came back to take the victory 7773 to improve to 2-1 in division play.

Observers sought for flood forecast

By LAUREL BEAGER LBeager@cherryroad.com With the aim of better predicting floods, the National Weather Service is recruiting additional volunteer precipitation observers throughout the Rainy River Basin. The effort follows historic flooding in spring and summer 2022 along the northern Minnesota border.

Artist’s inspiration gets personal

Cherie Serrano’s been painting the Rainy Lake mermaid for years. She calls the cement sculpture created in the 1930s on a rock on the Canadian side of Rainy Lake, “The Lady of the Lake.” “I’ve painted her so many times, every time I continue to strive for something better,” the International Falls artist said.
