15 years ago The city of International Falls is facing off with Fraser, Colorado, officials again over the right to use the trademark “Ice Box of the Nation,” filing a countersuit to a lawsuit filed by Fraser. Fraser officials say their town has used the phrase since 1956, while their counterparts in International Falls say they’ve used it since 1948.

International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club, Jan. 8: Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to help pack down the trail from the Black River road to the Northern connection. There was lots of trees down and really wet conditions. It’s going to take some cold weather before we can get down there with the groomers.

CO Reports

Jan. 10 CO Darrin Kittelson (International Falls #1] reports ice fishing, spearing, and snowmobile activities continue to be the main emphasis of the workload, along with handling various animal-related complaints. Rainy Lake is yielding a few fish, but it is very sporadic. A youth snowmobile safety class was held with several youth receiving their certifications. Enforcement action was taken for illegal ATV operation and license violations.

Minnesota North College Rainy River mens basketball team opened North Division play with a 101-66 win over Fond du Lac on Jan.6. Head Coach Bill Engel said it was a sluggish start after the break.
