HISTORY with Mike Hanson

Birchdale, 1949 “If” - the biggest short word there is was proved to be true in the Birchdale area when it was reported on May 7, 1949, that the railroad had chosen a north route and not on the south side of the Rainy River by International Falls Daily Journal. It was thought, hoped and reported that “if” it had been built as once planned that Birchdale would undoubtedly have been one of the chief towns of the county instead of just a small community.

End Game

It’s mid-way between Christmas and New Year’s Day here in Minnesota’s northland. Inclination now is to look both in rearview mirror and windshield as time and events go and come. We journalled “End Game” last year so a revisit update now seems in order.

Ask a Trooper: Emergency vehicles

Question: If I am driving down a two lane road and a State Trooper is driving toward me with their flashing lights on, am I supposed to move over? Answer: When approaching any authorized emergency vehicle equipped with emergency lights, the driver of each other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain in this position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer. A portion of state statutes were used with permission from the Office of the Revisor of Statutes.

Celebrate Bronco hockey

It’s been said “Once a Bronco, always a Bronco!” Those of us who did not start out as Broncos know what it means. Just go to a home football or basketball game, swimming or cross-country meet.
