Homecoming 2022

Two of the area’s school districts marked homecoming this week with activity weeks, parades, and The Big Game. Looking Back

Katie Bruggeman’s found fame in an unusual connection – her preschool boyfriend. Bruggeman, 29, appeared in an exclusive interview on the Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report as the preschool girlfriend of Dave Karsnia. Karsnia, also formerly of International Falls, has found his 15-minutes of fame in being the officer who arrested U.S. Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho in the restroom of the Minneapolis airport. Bruggeman works as an executive assistant on the Colbert Repot in New York and has worked on the show since it started. Before that she worked for Comedy Central network, according to her father, John Bruggeman of Ranier. As the show’s host, Stephen Colbert interviewed Katie about growing up in International Falls, Bruggeman indicated her connection to the area as she raised her fist in the air and shouted, “Go Broncos.” In the tongue-in-cheek interview, Bruggeman described how, at age four, Karsnia shared his graham crackers with her. And Colbert asked if any of Karsnia’s actions in preschool would have indicated his future fame.

My Daughter

BEYOND REASON Friends have asked why I haven’t written about my 4-year-old daughter. Some know me as a dotting dad and conjectured that I was too deeply in love to make fun of her.

Honda Highlights

Old adventurer here recently learned that famous Japanese manufacturer, Honda, is once again building its iconic Trail Bike motorcycle for USA sale, resurrecting “Honda Highlights” memories from more than 50 years ago. Following college, this young couple began family and forest products industry career in Virginia’s Alleghany Highlands. Bank account wouldn’t allow second vehicle “mill car”, but bicycle followed by Honda’s 90 cc Trail Bike for $600 provided commuter and mountain adventures. Helmet labelled “Yankee Clipper”, below Mason-Dixon Line, helped avoid injury twice as autos pulled in front and motorcycle went down onto town streets.

ASK A TROOPER

ASK A TROOPER Minnesota State Patrol Question: Is it legal for me to have a blue soft lighted “RAM” lettering logo on the front grill of my truck? It’s not flashing, but always illuminated. Any answer is appreciated.

Broncos clinch homecoming nail-biter

In a memorable football game on Homecoming, the International Falls football team Friday rallied from behind four times in the game to win 49-48 over Hinckley- Finlayson. The game started with the Jaguars taking the opening kickoff and methodically moving down the field to score about 5 minutes into the game and the first quarter would end with Hinckley- Finlayson up 7-0. It was a vastly different second quarter as the teams would combine to score 49 points. The Falls struck first with a 26-yard TD pass from Cody Joslyn to Hendrix Torgerson and they would hook up for the 2-pt conversion and it was 8-7.
