Foundation’s classic supports respiratory program

More than 110 golfers gathered at The River Golf Course Thursday to support a newly launched service at Rainy Lake Medical Center. The 19th annual Rainy Lake Medical Center Foundation’s Golf Classic raised money for the facility’s respiratory therapy program, which launched last month.

Senior Legion baseball

What an exciting finish to the Senior Legion baseball game on Friday night at Scheela Field against Moose Lake/Barnum. It was a pitcher’s duel through 6 innings as the Broncos scored first in the bottom of the 4th and Moose Lake/Barnum tied it at one in the top of the 5th.

Flood update: Water receding

“Really good news.” That’s how Koochiching County Sheriff Perryn Hedlund described this week’s flood situation report from the National Weather Service and NOAA for the weeks ahead. “We’re just still paying waiting game at this point,” he said.

Set the hook!

With the crappie fishing being challenging these past few weeks, I decided to switch things up and take advantage of an invitation to Eltrut Lake in southern Ontario. It’s been 40 years since I had been to Eltrut and I looked forward to visiting this fishery that many years ago did not have a population of smallmouth bass and now has trophies.

Three days of celebration

The weekend’s festivities celebrating America’s Independence Day brought new offerings and old favorites to International Falls. The three days of Fourth of July activities culminated Monday night with fireworks by the Falls Fire and Ambulance Service.

I love new books. It is one of the best parts of my job. I love seeing the ingenuity and imagination of authors and illustrators. Today, I will be share some of my favorite new picture books. I love sharing these with children, but also with teens and adults. We are never too old or too young to enjoy a beautiful or funny or heart-wrenching story.
