I love new books. It is one of the best parts of my job. I love seeing the ingenuity and imagination of authors and illustrators. Today, I will be share some of my favorite new picture books. I love sharing these with children, but also with teens and adults. We are never too old or too young to enjoy a beautiful or funny or heart-wrenching story.

NEARLY NORTH OF TWO: CAPITOL COMMOTION II (D)

Our House of Representatives’ Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on our nation’s capitol held its 6th public hearing in unscheduled and surprising fashion this past week on June 28, 2022. Congress was in recess for the July 4th holiday and the young lady witness was former top aide to ex-president’s chief of staff. Focus of attention was internal White House activity for several days leading up to the attack on the capitol. Witness’s testimony supplemented her four previously private interviews of some 20 hours.

Question: How many classes of drivers’ licenses are there and what do they mean? Answer: Minnesota has four different classes of drivers’ licenses. Class D is valid for: • Single vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or less; • Recreational vehicles; • Certain farm vehicles; • Towing vehicles, regardless of weight, provided the GVW of the combination does not exceed 26,000 pounds; • Towing vehicles up to 10,000 pounds GVW when the combination exceeds 26,000 pounds GVW.

More flood updates

No-wake, markers No-wake restrictions on Namakan, Kabetogama, and Sand Point lakes have been lifted by Voyageurs National Park as lake levels in the Namakan basin have receded. Due to highwater persisting on Rainy Lake, the no-wake restriction remains in effect there.

CORRECTION

A story in the July 1 edition on hunger in the schools contained incorrect statistics. The numbers should have read: 2021 to 2022 Comparisons ISD 361 shelf, January - May 2021: 202 visits; January - May 2022: 683 visits.

Looking Back

Friday, July 8, 2022 15 years ago Beth Anderson, the principal at West End Elementary School, has retired after 39 years in education. Beth began her career teaching in Fairfax County, Va., and moved to Borderland to begin teaching here in 1978.
