High water makes the angling interesting. We have been successful fishing traditional spots and have experienced a larger than usual size average. This is surprising after the previous two seasons with the Canadian border closure that put significant added pressure on the Rainy Lake fishery.

Gordens sell Big Falls general store

Blessings are real for Bill and Sandy Gorden, and in this case, it took the form of Kirk and Joslin Krist. The Gordens, after years in the family business in Big Falls, have sold Gorden’s General Store in Big Falls to the Krists, who will rename the store Big Falls Mercantile.

FHS team: Quiz Bowl Champs

A team from Falls High School won this year’s annual Lester “Jack” Briggs Regional High School Quiz Bowl Championship May 20. FHS senior Brian Pearson and freshman Khia Porter and Alaina Gates won the day-long competition that tests high school students’ knowledge of Ojibwe language, culture, and history.

Millerbernd, Filipiak to be inducted into 2022 MCAC Hall of Fame

A longtime coach and administrator and a student athlete from former Rainy River Community College are part of the 2022 MCAC Hall of Fame. Mel Millerbernd, longtime administrator and coach, and Maddie Filipiak, student athlete, will be inducted into the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.

Happy trails, Indus Class of 2022

This year the Indus School graduation class had five students: Chase Steinbach, Ulrich Picar, Colin Leahy, Jade Etienne and Lydia Black. It was an intimate graduation ceremony at the school gymnasium, with lots of personal stories about each graduate from the speakers.

June members have been added to the Falls Elementary School Birthday Bookshelf Club to assist the book fund there. Media scholarship
