State of counties: Resolute

What is the state of our state’s 87 counties? The word that most resonates with me when I contemplate this is “resolute.” Counties are resolute in our mission to serve. Minnesota’s counties commissioners and staff are the no non-sense “do-ers” of many things.

Border Bank welcomes Evolve U Fitness

Evolve U Fitness will relocate to the spacious lower level in Border Bank, Derek Olson, market president for Border Bank in International Falls and Baudette, announced last week. Evolve U Fitness, owned by Erin and Ashley Hall, was housed in the former International Discount Liquor building on the west side of International Falls.

Borderland Mustang Wrestling hit the tourney mats

Borderland Mustang wrestlers continue to improve each week, report coaches The following is an update on recent tournaments: March 12: Northland Youth Wrestling Association District Qualifier, Deer River Aaron Freeberg took first place, qualifying to wrestling regionals in Bemidji March 25 and 26. “This is a huge accomplishment for Aaron,” Coach Jeremy Mann said.

Hotel works toward opening

Two bald guys drove into International Falls a couple weeks ago to meet Big Dave. On their way, they called the Rainy Lake Gazette to offer an update and tour of their project: the AmericInn on Keenan Drive, to be open in time for summer.

Spring-time ritual

Ben Sunne shot these photos of what appears to be a male sharp-tail grouse performing a courtship dance. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports that each spring, as many as 25 males gather in a grassy area and begin to display.
