It’s no secret that as we age so do our bodies and minds. Feeling good may come easy but at some point we may need to adopt some good strategies to maintain and better our health. Health afflictions and conditions have a way of just showing up unannounced and unwelcome.

ISD 361 Community Ed Report

Jan. 18: We began Water Fitness again. This is a popular class. We have seen a big increase of people coming to the adult lap swim in the mornings. The time for morning lap swim is 6:15 to 7:30. We are talking about extending the time to 8 so that people can stagger their time.

Trail Reports

Jan. 27 Voyageurs National Park Thursday: There is approximately 15 inches of snow on the lakes currently, so while you are on the snowmobile trails, ride with caution.

VNP start point for journey

When most of us are just happy the daylight is growing longer in Borderland, Emily Ford will set out on a human-powered unsupported month-long journey – mostly on ice. The Duluth woman will depart Voyageurs National Park at Crane Lake Feb.

CO Report International Falls

CO John Slatinski IV (Ray) Excellent snow and trail conditions has led to an increase in snowmobilers in the area, although considerably lower than historical levels. Angler numbers have been consistent with mixed reports on success. Equipment maintenance was tended to, and administrative tasks were completed. Overall, compliance was very good the past week.

KAO receives grant

Koochiching Aging Options is among two dozen organizations to receive grants from the Northland Foundation during the final quarter of 2021. The International Falls agency was awarded $25,000 to provide services to older adults and caregivers to help them maintain independence and age in place.

County COVID update

Koochiching County commissioners last week heard an update on the local impact of the pandemic from the county’s lead public health official. Kathy LaFrance reported Jan.
