Dear Amy: One of my friends, “Charles,” has just gotten out of a three-year relationship with his emotionally abusive partner, “Anthony.” Before I understood how abusive Anthony had been, I considered us friends, but I’m no longer comfortable associating with Anthony at all. Normally in this kind of situation where someone’s primary friendship is with one person, the friendship just sort of naturally dissolves when they break up, but Anthony thinks of me as his best friend and is likely to continue, unless I say otherwise.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 21 15 YEARS AGO The Rainy River Community College Voyageurs women’s hockey team beat Michigan Tech Huskies by a combined score of 21-2 in two games here. In the first game the Voyageurs beat the Huskies 10-2 in Bronco Arena.

I have done two 1,000 jigsaw puzzles since the beginning of the year. It has definitely been stress relieving and a favorite winter activity. The library has a variety of puzzles available to borrow ranging from kids 2 piece beginner puzzles to a number of 1,000 piece puzzles. They check out for 2 weeks and can be renewed if you need longer.

Data center seeks investments

Do you have about $500,000 you’d like to invest locally? Joe Mershon, Granite Digital Realty LLC, and members of the Koochiching Economic Development Authority Board have an opportunity they’d like talk about. On Monday, Mershon provided the board an update on his proposal to develop a data center warehouse on several lots in the International Falls Business Park.

Committee tours training center

Members of the House Labor, Industry, and Veterans Affairs Committee Jan. 12 toured SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 Metro-Area Training Center in White Bear Lake. During the tour, lawmakers received a first-hand look at the center’s apprenticeship training program and learned about the industry’s role in energy efficiency, COVID-19 mitigation, fire suppression, and technological innovations.

FHS One Act Play to perform for community

FHS One Act Play is fast approaching its first season meet. Before the cast and crew go down to Eveleth to compete against other schools in the section meet, they will put on a performance for International Falls and surrounding communities.

Local students recognized

The College of St. Scholastica announces Joseph Talmage and Olivia Wright, both of International Falls, have been placed on the school’s fall 2021 dean’s list.

FES Birthday Bookshelf

December members have been added to the Birthday Bookshelf Club to assist the book fund at Falls Elementary School.
