Derby day

Cooper Jensen and Robert Raukohl hoist some fish into the air Saturday after registering them at the Rainy Lake Sportfishing Club 38th Annual Ice Fishing Derby. The derby drew thousands to Rainy Lake’s Sandbay for The club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. About 245 fish were caught and registered in the derby, said reports at the end of day. Officials to monitor spring water conditions

On the heels of historic and damaging flooding last year, the second briefing by federal officials on 2023 prespring conditions places the risk for spring flooding at above normal. Both assessments come with the caution that spring flooding is primarily driven by the weather pattern in March and April, and with scheduled updates in March and April.

March brings uncommon passage
