Child care grant goes to Northome

First Children’s Finance has chosen the Northome community to receive its 2023 Community Child Care Grant. The $30,000 grant is part of the Rural Child Care Innovation Program, a community engagement process designed to develop right-sized solutions to address the needs of childcare and early education in rural communities.

Olson hopes to bring company home

In supporting local businesses, a former International Falls resident hopes to come full circle and bring a new company and his family back to Borderland. Jeff Olson, Falls High School Class of 1988, is Jim and Jeannette’s boy and grew up in the same house on Ninth Avenue that was sold two years ago, when Jim moved into the Good Samaritan Society, where Jeannette had worked for years.

Spring flood risk and insurance

With last week’s announcement of the higher than normal risk of spring flooding, the Insurance Federation of Minnesota, IFM, reminds property owners that spring flood season is fast approaching. According to the data, even if Minnesota just gets an average amount of snowfall in March and April, it will mean the state will have one of the 10 snowiest on record.

LIFT celebrates new chapter

Jenna DeBenedet’s LIFT is ready for the next chapter, after growth in its infancy at Backus Community Center. LIFT, which DeBenedet has owned for the last two years, has moved to a new location in downtown International Falls, which appears to be experiencing a renaissance.
