DEED seeks reviewers

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is looking to recruit about 100 community members to serve as grant reviewers for competitive workforce development grant programs during the fall of 2022 and winter of 2022-23. Community reviewers will be involved in the agency; s grantmaking decisions for other DEED divisions soon.

Kostiuk work recognized by AMEM award

Willi Kostiuk, Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office emergency coordinator, has been recognized with the Outstanding Performance in Emergency Management Award by the Association of Minnesota Emergency Managers. Kostiuk, who has served as county emergency coordinator since 2015, was nominated by Blain Johnson, and on behalf of Region 2 Arrowhead Region Emergency Management Association, who said Kostiuk “works tirelessly for the community and is always there when called upon; even on a parttime budget.”

Kulig: New chamber director

Denise Kulig has been selected as the part-time executive director of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Kulig earned a bachelor of arts degree from Purdue University and has held several professional position since then, including most recently at Cantilever Distillery, Ranier, and Wagner Construction, International Falls, Betsy Zaren, chamber board chair, said in the announcement.

Cindy Youso has been promoted to branch president of RiverWoodBank. She had served as branch manager of Baudette and the International Falls lpo/dpo of RiverWood Bank.

RLMC provides jail medical services

RLMC REPORT Rainy Lake Medical Center signed an agreement in August with Koochiching County to provide state-required medical services to inmates at the county jail. The agreement will have a designated Rainy Lake Medical Center provider available to administer services during normal business hours by phone or in person.

Sims joins KSWCD

Whitney Sims joined the team Koochiching Soil & Water Conservation District Aug. 15 as a new resource conservationist, the position held previously by Eric Olson. Sim’s primary activities will be providing technical assistance on the Wetland Conservation Act, beneficial reuse of wood ash, shoreline stabilization, state cost share, and general resource management.

Kettle Falls Hotel operations open for concession

The National Park Service anticipates releasing sometime this fall a prospectus for operating the Kettle Falls Hotel and operations, a concession business opportunity to provide lodging, food and beverage, retail, marina, and other services at Kettle Falls within Voyageurs National Park. The prospectus will describe the business opportunity and the terms and conditions of Concession Contract #CC-VOYA002-24 (Draft Contract). The park service plans a site visit for interested parties Oct. 3, or depending on weather conditions, Oct. 4, in advance of its notice to seek operators. Because of Borderland’s winter conditions, another site visit will not be provided after release of the prospectus. Kettle Falls is only accessible by air, boat or snowmobile, depending on weather conditions. The site visit will provide interested parties an overview of the concession operation and a tour of the concession facilities: land and real property improvements assigned to the concessioner under the draft contract Registration is required for the site visit.
