CARES loans assisted local businesses

Nine businesses in Koochiching County got help in recovering from the effects of the pandemic with help as part of a $3.88 million dollar investment in in the seven counties of northeast Minnesota. Funded by the Federal Economic Development Administration through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Arrowhead Regional Development Commission distributed the money in the form of low interest urgent loans – up to $75,000 per business.

Trailer court to get update, upgrade

The community’s welcoming attitude was key in selecting International Falls for a project on the Rainy River, say the developers of a resort at an existing trailer court. Now branded NorthernSkys Rainy River, International Falls, the existing trailer court on Rainy River will be updated and upgraded into a top-quality camp-ground resort for families to visit and use from May-October each year, said Joe Swanson chair of Northern Skys.com, an RV campsite and resort company.

Lassila promoted at Border Bank

Kris Lassila has been promoted to vice president and branch manager at Border Bank in International Falls, reports Derek Olson, market president for Border Bank in Baudette and International Falls. Lassila will continue to serve her customers as their trusted business officer, Olson said.

More about chamber dissolution

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, members of the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce met at Backus Community Center to decide the future of the chamber. Members in attendance were present to vote on a resolution passed by the Chamber’s Board of Directors on Feb. 7, 2022, to dissolve the chamber at the end of the current fiscal year, April 30, 2022.
