Local food co-op explored

What started as a conversation about grocery options has led to preliminary plans for a food co-op. The idea now known as the Borderland Food Cooperative grew from a conversation Jean Clement had with another woman as they stood in a grocery store looking at turkey and sharing concerns about a lack of options for groceries.

Ready to run

With the International Voyageurs Snowmobile Club trail system groomed and in good shape, the club is readying for its Annual Falls International Speed Run Against Cancer from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. February 19 on Rainy Lake in front of Thunderbird Lodge. The club conducted its annual hot dog roast on the trail last weekend. The club’s next meeting is at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948. See more at Awww. ridetheborders.com. State awards $12.88 million to AB housing project

With approval last week of state funding, construction on the $12.88 million proposed Alexander Baker Housing Project in International Falls could begin this fall or next winter. This money, along with other sources, will fully fund the project, planned to provide 27 units of affordable housing for rent, including four one-bedroom units, 16 two-bedroom units, four three-bedroom units, and three four-bedroom units.
