A biologist renowned for his wildlife work says some people buy sports cars in their mid-life crisis.But not Steve Windels, who now calls himself a biologist by day and comedian by night.Windels, formerly of International Falls, has launched a comedy career and will play host to a comedy show at 7:30 p.m.

The Koochiching County Historical Society’s third annual gala June 7 will take a step back in time to Prohibition Era Koochiching County.The gala will raise money for investment in the society’s endowment funds, as well as its Building Maintenance and Stabilization Fund.“These funds are vital to the preservation and well-being of the society’s mission in preserving our history as we move toward the future,” society officials said.The gala is at the Thunderbird Lodge; doors open at 5 p.m., entertainment at 6:30 p.m.


The Borealis Bards, the theater program associated with Backus Community Center, will present the musical, “Is There a Doctor in the House?” as its spring production May 23 and 24.The musical will take place on the main stage of Backus Community Center at 900 Fifth St., International Falls.

Minnesota performer Drew Peterson will take the Open Range Concert stage at 7 p.m.

Jail bidsThe Rainy Lake Gazette’s April 26 print edition inaccurately reported that bids for construction of a new jail were accepted by the Koochiching County Board.The County Board did not approve any bids at the April 23 board meeting.
