Another annual celebration, the Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Elks Lodge 1599 in International Falls, was deemed a success.Organizers reported that 713 people were served dinner that involved about 100 volunteers in varying tasks the day before and on Thanksgiving Day.
Beyond the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, this is also a time to reflect on the year with thankfulness, gratitude, and a spirit of giving back to those in need.“Many of us take for granted the simple things in life like our pillow or towels,” said United Way of Northeastern Minnesota Executive Director Erin Shay.
Gale Gagnier, a death doula, continued her “Speak Easy” talk series on death in October.She began the public conversation on death in September, after realizing the need.She has served as a death doula, also called a death midwife, for about 20 years.
All are welcome to the annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Elks Lodge 1599 in International Falls.Plans are underway for this year’s dinner, organized, prepared and served by volunteers.Organizers Ronna MacKay, Shawn Mason and Kevin Grover urge members of the community to come, volunteer, and eat, among other things.“Gathering at the Elk’s is a great opportunity for people to enjoy a wonderful, traditional Thanksgiving meal – and equally important – fellowship,” said Mason.
Families may remember a loved one during the winter months with an opportunity offered by the board of directors of the Forest Hill Cemetery Association.The association has a limited number of fresh holiday wreaths that may be purchased for $50, reports Ward Merrill, Forest Hill Cemetery Association president.Each wreath is made locally with fresh evergreen boughs.
