Ukraine dinner to raise funds

A long Borderland connection to the Ukraine and a desire to help the people there now under siege by Russia has led to the organization of a local fundraising dinner planned for May 25. The International Falls Community Ukrainian Refugee Relief Dinner at Elks Lodge 1599 will feature traditional Ukrainian foods, including borscht, pierogis, cabbage rolls, Ukrainian pork garlic sausage, Ukrainian pickles, and desserts.

Law agencies donate to Ukraine

Local law enforcement agencies have joined with others in the state to donate protective gear to the people of Ukraine. Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office and the International Falls Police Department contributed to the effort, in conjunction with the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association, and sheriff offices all over Minnesota, confirmed Sheriff Perryn Hedlund.

Falls district class sections show decline

With declining student numbers forcing reductions in class sections for the 2022-23 school year, the International Falls school district adopted its class schedule Ṫhe adjustments lead to a reduction at the Falls High School of a 1.091 full-time equivalent position – something district administrators and board members do not favor but believe is warranted. The vote to set the schedule was approved on a 3-2 vote last week.
