L-BF students of the month

The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board recently recognized the students of the month for March 2023. Kadence Schmidtbauer is March student of the month for senior high, and Tenley Westerman for junior high, reports Kathy Siltman, L-BF High School secretary.

A celebration

Falls Elementary School staff and students celebrated their preparations for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments that take place in grades 3-5 at FES. Staff, and the Bronco cheerleaders, held a MCA Pepfest last week, with the teachers offering a dance surprise for the students.

New state law: Universal free meals

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz officially signed into law HF5 on Friday, March 17, which would ensure free school meals for students. This will guarantee that all students, regardless of their family’s need, will receive food during the school day to fuel their education. Minnesota is the fourth state in the country to enact this program!

L-BF names honor roll members

The following Littlefork- Big Falls High School students have qualified for inclusion in the school’s 202223 third quarter honor roll. The honor roll includes the: Principal’s List, for students who achieve a perfect “A” with an average between 3.995 and 4.0; “A” honor roll, for those with an average between 3.695 and 3.994; “B” honor roll is for students achieving an average between 3.0 and 3.694.

Speech takes 10th

The Falls High School speech team placed 10th March 25 at a meet in Grand Rapids. The following are the individual Bronco finishes: Discussion • Karlyann Bennett 4, 5, 5 and 16th place Duo • Eve Hemstad and Chloe Hufnagle 1, 2, 3 and in finals 5,3,2 taking 3rd place • Alaina Gates and Hannah McGonigle 5, 3, 5 and 10th Humorous • Max Youso 5, 4, 5 and 11th place • Joe Sullivan 3, 5, 2 and in finals 2,4,2 taking 2nd place • Kourtney Talley 4, 5, 4 and 8th place Prose • Linnaea Yount 4, 3, 3 and 11th place • Leah Boe 3, 5, 3 and 14th place .

FHS Students of the Month

The International Falls School Board and Elks Lodge 1599 recently recognized recent students of the month. The board recognized Cohen Costley for March, Bailey Herberg and Max Dremmel for February, and Cadyn Zahn for November.

State bound

The International Falls Senior High Knowledge Bowl team qualified for the State Knowledge Bowl Tournament, with a second place at the regional tournament Wednesday, March 15, against 17 other top-rated teams from northeastern Minnesota. The Bronco team of Emma Saxton, Jakob Clifford, Ellen Windels, Nora Sullivan and William Ginter came out strong after the written round with a score of 40, which put them in the top room at the beginning of the oral rounds, reports Coach Ariana Zahradka.

Submissions sought for art contest

Minnesota’s Eighth District Congressman Pete Stauber invites high school students who reside in 8th District to enter the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Each year, Congress holds an art competition to highlight talented young artists throughout the nation. The winner from each Congressional district will have their artwork displayed in the United States Capitol for a year.
