The FHS Ojibwe Quiz Bowl team left Thursday, March 2, for its much anticipate first quiz bowl competition of the year. The team was made up of Kim Wehrenberg, Ninamay Kingbird, Khia Porter, and Kianna Shughrue, with Hunter Wilson serving as the alternate.
Nicholas Silvers of International Falls has been selected to be one of Falcon View Connections Academy’s Students of the Month in recognition of his achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.
Indus school Senior Brea Hasbargen recently finished a mural of a giraffe by a tree in the Indus School library. High school art teacher Soren Olesen reported she selected the space to add some color, adding it helps students to have something interesting to look at while they sit and study in the library. She also wanted to paint something that would pique students’ curiosity and encourage them to use their imagination. Olesen said school officials hope Brea have some to use her multi-media artist skills and create another mural prior to May graduation. Brea serves as National Honor Society president and is involved in all the school sport. In the fall, she eaves for her Minnesota National Guard duties.
A local student has been listed on the University of Wyoming’s 2022 fall semester academic dean’s and dean’s freshman honor rolls. Chase T.
Falls High School and nine other groups have been awarded Northland Foundation’s Youth In Philanthropy Board awards, totaling $8,267. The grants were awarded to benefit children-and-youth led projects in region.
Littlefork-Big Falls School officials have recognized their February 2023 student of the month. Representing the senior high is Trevor Galusha and the junior high Braydon Kurhais, reports Kathy Siltman, L-BF High School secretary.
The IFalls Team 2 Feb. 22 took home another first-place win at its Knowledge Bowl meet, finishing off the regular season. They once again reached a 100+ score and will move onto Regions on March 14. A top three placement at Regions would send IFalls Team 2 again onto the State meet, the ultimate goal for the seniors on the team.
The International Falls School Board and Elks Lodge 1599 recently recognized Nora Sullivan as one of the January students of the month. Kevin Grover, district superintendent and member of Elks Lodge 1599, provided the following about Sullivan: Nora is the daughter of Darcy and Robert Sullivan.
Michelle Boelk is the current band teacher at FHS and plans to retire at the end of the 2023 school year. Boelk has been the band director at Falls High School for about 12 years and has been teaching for over 28 years.
Students at St. Thomas Aquinas School last week celebrated their 100th day of school by dressing up as if they were 100 years old. Students and teachers really had fun getting into the spirit, reports Andrea Pastor, advancement director.
