The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board recently recognized L-BF student of the month for December 2022. Anissa Wimmer was named L-BF student of the month for senior high, and Thatcher Jenkinson for junior high.

Hunter Mai, a junior criminal justice major from International Falls, was among about 850 Bob Jones University students named to the fall 2022 dean’s list. The dean’s list recognizes students who earn a 3.00-3.74 grade point average during the semester.

Students certified

Jacob Hanson and Jenessa Holte, ProStart Level II students in culinary arts and restaurant management at Indus School, recently were notified that they passed the certification exam based on the ServSafe Food Handler (National Restaurant Association) program taught in class.

Hands on learning

Molly Yates from Grim Pottery in Konnarock, Va., who was visiting in the area lately, came to Indus School in January to show high school art students how to make pottery on a wheel. She worked with students in grades 8-12 on throwing, wedging, and making things out of clay. Students specifically learned techniques to put handles on their cups, centering, and rounding the top edge of their cups on the pottery wheel.

Local students recognized

Amelia Davis and Owen Wherley of International Falls are among more than 100 students recognized for high academic achievement at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, Cloquet. Davis and Wherley were named to the Dean’s List for fall semester 2022.

VFW contest winners named

Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2948 recently announced winners of its fall essay and coloring contents. The local winner of the Patriot’s Pen for the 2022-2023 school year is again Samantha Lane, writing on the theme, “My pledge to our veterans.” The Patriot’s Pen calls for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade to write a 300–400-word essay.

Hands-on learning

Eight Indus School ProStart culinary students traveled to Minnesota North College in Hibbing on Nov. 17 to assist with preparations for a community Thanksgiving dinner there, serving 300 people.
