HAVYN PELLAND Havyn Pelland, International Falls, has received the Rodney Paseka School of Business Scholarship for $3,000 from Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Falls High School graduate is pursuing a degree in business management and marketing.

Americanism

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary to Post 2948 recently announced the winners of its Americanism Placemat Contest. Students drew patriotic pictures, which were used as placemats by residents of Silver Bay Veterans Home. Winners in grade K-1 are: first place, Ella Rolando; second place, James Cothran; and third place but missing from the photo is Jack Pastor. Grades 2-3, winners are: first place, Pyke Lloyd; second, Mira Baldwin; and third Ilyana Saari. Grades 5-6 winners are first place, Kelly Koerbitz; second but missing from the photo Ava Gutormsom; and third Celia Sjoblom. FES Birthday Bookshelf

April members have been added to the Birthday Bookshelf, to assist the book fund at Falls Elementary School. Hartzler, Glowack recognized

The International Falls School Board recently recognized Emma Hartzler and Ben Glowack as the Falls High School Elks Lodge 1599 April Students of the Month. Falls School District Superintendent Kevin Grover, also a member of the local lodge, provided the following information about each of the students: Emma Hartzler Emma is the daughter of Jennifer and Mathew Hartzler.

State Speech

Falls High School students Gavia and Linnaea Yount competed in the state speech meet on Saturday and placed 23rd out of 24 teams in duo interpretation. .

Hands-on learning

Five students from Indus and Northome schools got a chance to see up close what working in the plumbing trades might be like last week. The high school students are taking plumbing courses for college credit through Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, where they attended a “lab day” April 22.

FHS Speech Team sends 3 to state

Falls High School students Mitchell Erickson, the author, and the duo team of Gavia and Linnaea Yount will advance to the State Speech Meet on April 23 in Apple Valley. The three moved to the state competition following the Section 7A meet in Duluth April 8, when the FHS speech team took eighth place overall.

Indus class trip

Members of the Indus School senior class and their advisors Wendy Mayer and Soren Olesen had a fantastic trip to Chicago for the 2022 Senior Trip from March 31 to April 3. It was both an educational and a fun time.
