Brokaw recognized as ‘Roads Scholar’

Ted Brokaw, director of International Falls Public Works, is among May 24 “Roads Scholars” graduates of the Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Program.The Roads Scholar Program is designed for city, county, township, and tribal transportation agency maintenance personnel who are committed to learning new skills and expanding their knowledge in the latest road and bridge innovations and industry best practices.Brokaw was one of nine grads who hold the distinction of earning both leadership and maintenance certificates this past year.Forty-one grads earned a maintenance operations and technical certificate by completing a series of in-depth LTAP workshops focused on drainage and vegetation, road management and maintenance, traffic control and work-zone safety, and worker safety, as well as by attending larger qualified events.Another 16 graduates earned a leadership, supervisory, and operations management certificate by completing four designated LTAP leadership courses focused on the management of local agency and public works organizations and operations.“Our 2023 Roads Scholars represent the commitment to excellence and continuous education and improvement that are a signature of transportation agencies across Minnesota,” said Andrew Wrucke, MnLTAP director.

UND students recognized

Several local students were recognized at the University of North Dakota recently, as they were included on the Dean’s List or took part in spring commencement.More than 1,100 undergraduates and 600 graduate students received their degrees at UND’s Spring Commencement ceremonies.The Dean’s List comprises students whose grade point average are in the top 15 percent of the enrollment in each of the University’s degree granting colleges and schools.

Minnesota North College has announced a significant change for the 2024-2025 academic year: the removal of non-resident tuition rates.This means that all students, regardless of their state of residence, will now pay tuition rates that are no more than resident students.
