Ecklund needed in St. Paul

I’ve known Rob Ecklund for a long time. In my role as a past president of the Minnesota Timber Producers Association and current member of its board of directors, I’ve watched closely as Rob has represented our region at the state Capital. He has a proven track record of supporting the timber industry in St. Paul. Experience matters. So does Rob’s seniority in the legislature. It helps all of us in our region.

IJC should have opened gates sooner

Last summer 2021, we had a severe drought. The lake was very low in late summer and fall. The drought ended sometime in October. It started raining and snowing in November and basically never stopped all winter long. Our usual January thaw never happened in 2022. This thaw normally melts some snow and settles things down for a week to 10 days. Then about March 13, we received 13 inches of wet heavy snow on top of a lot of snow and ice already on the ground and lakes. This heavy snow was followed by ongoing heavy rains. GOP candidates focused on power

To the editor, Beguiling is a very interesting word: “to charm or enchant sometimes in a deceptive way.” At times we have a temptation to believe the unbelievable. The American conservative movement has experienced such temptations. Built on a foundation of greatness, its ideals have fallen short of its promises. It’s all to stay in power

To the editor, Often, I think: how is it possible for people living in a democracy to relinquish their freedom to fascists? Why are some so easily distracted from the freedom they have to subject themselves to servitude to a dictator. The history of Germany and Italy are examples.

Stauber record shows the truth

To the editor, Pete Stauber must go! Vote for Jen Schultz, a four-term state representative who has a 100 percent AFL-CIO voting record! The Inflation Reduction Act just passed by Senate Democrats including Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith fights inflation by taxing wealthy corporations yet benefits every citizen in our County. As to Seniors, no person on Medicare will pay more than $2000 for their prescription drugs and Medicare can now negotiate with drug companies. As to every worker, tax rebates will be used on all sorts of energy reduction investments for our homes. In addition, the rebates on electric cars bought, used and new, will begin to make electric cars affordable and cheaper to operate than gas and help save our environment from global warming.
