To the editor, As awful as the overthrow of Roe Vs Wade is, abortion is just one of several political tools the oligarchs are using to push power to the states. States’ rights are really the key to turning power over to the corporate oligarchies as they can more easily control regulatory review and taxation at the state level.
To the editor, Is there any privately owned business in International Falls that receives $50,000 a year in our tax dollars? How many citizens in International Falls even know that Backus Community Center is a privately owned business? Taxes in International Falls are rising at an astronomical rate and I, for one, don’t want my tax dollars going to Backus Community Center or any privately owned business. Backus Community Center states the $50,000 is for “artistic activities,” well, I suggest if this privately owned business wants artistic activities, they start paying for it themselves.
All children need someone to be there for them, whether to kick a ball around, empathize over adolescent friendships, or provide support for mental health issues or other adversities. They need to know that at least one person will never give up on them – no matter what happens in their lives, no matter who they are, no matter what they do. They need someone who will always love, support, mentor and care for them.
On April 1, Bre Katrin officially passed the torch to me as I became United Way of Northeastern Minnesota’s board president. I am honored to assume this role and feel eager and excited to serve in this capacity during a year that has so much promise, energy, and opportunity.
To the editor, The latest blow to northeastern Minnesota (Twin Metals) should come as no surprise. It’s the most recent in a string of decisions by metro elites to strangle and starve out economic success for northeastern Minnesota’s people.
To the editor, Last year Servants of Shelter provided over 5,300 nights of shelter to community members who were experiencing homelessness. We are grateful to be part of a community that sees the value in every one of its members having a safe, warm place to call home.
To the editor, How many of you remember the 2018 campaign of Alexandria Ocosio Cortez, AOC? Remember, “The earth only has 12 years left if we do not end global warming”? AOC has now given us the “Green New Deal” as she could not wait any longer for Al Gore’s 1998-99 campaign premise that state his fact that “if we do not stop the global warming the streets of Miami, Fla., will be 3-feet under water in just 20 years.” Now it’ not global warming anymore. The world wasn’t’ warming up fast enough.
To the editor, How will we determine who to vote for in our next congressional election? Most people will vote for the party they have always voted for. However, politics is not a static science.
The Rainy Lake Gazette will charge $30 to publish letters of endorsement or in opposition of candidates, about candidates, by candidates, and those that urge people to vote for a particular candidate or a certain way on a ballot question.
