Airport focus of consultant review

International Falls and Koochiching County agreed to share the costs of a consultant who would identify opportunities and recommend actions to reduce subsidies paid annually to the operations of the Falls International Airport, while ensuring a sustainable future for the airport.The Falls City Council approved the plan as the Economic Development Authority Board in a special session Monday.

Restoring views of history

Local artist Bruce Trask is working to restore murals depicting pieces of Borderland’s past throughout the community, thanks to the support of local and district organizations.Through the remainder of the fall, and into next spring and summer, people traveling through International Falls will notice Trask working to restore murals on the Bob Walls Memorial Hall and Woodworkers Lodge W33, Peter Graham Veterans of Wars Post 2948, Elks Lodge 1599, Island View Realty, and Small Town Tech buildings.The restoration project is funded through the support of the Rotary Club of International Falls, Rotary International District 5580, members of the Peter Graham VFW Post, Koochiching Community Development Association, and the Marshall N.

Jail takes shape

Segments of walls of the new Koochiching County Jail were put in place last week by crane.The walls were delivered to the site by 21 semi-trucks and unloaded by crane off Fourth Street.The original jail was built in 1978 but can no longer meet state standards for safety and security.
